Art Basel on Focus
At Paris Internationale 2026, Lab’Bel presents the thirteenth edition of The Laughing Cow® Collector’s Edition Boxes, created by French contemporary artist Jean-Luc Moulène. The project transforms one of France’s most recognisable consumer products into an object of artistic reflection, challenging the boundaries between art, design and everyday life. Titled Errata La Vache qui rit®, the 2026 edition continues Moulène’s long-standing exploration of ordinary objects, commercial imagery and the meaning of products in contemporary society. Rather than adding new imagery to the familiar packaging, the artist takes an unexpected approach: removing almost all written information and commercial markings from the box, leaving its emblematic colours and geometric form to speak for themselves.

The result invites viewers to reconsider an object they may have encountered countless times. Stripped of its usual labels and branding, the familiar cheese box becomes a minimalist, sculptural composition, echoing the artist’s Errata series, which began in 1991 and investigates how removing signs and information can transform our perception of everyday things. Curated by Erik Verhagen, the edition is part of an initiative launched in 2014 by Lab’Bel, the artistic laboratory of the Bel Group. Each year, an internationally recognised contemporary artist is invited to reinterpret the iconic packaging. Previous contributors include Daniel Buren, Rosemarie Trockel, Cildo Meireles and Henrik Olesen.

La Boîte Collector La Vache qui rit® conçue par Jean-Luc Moulène s’inscrit dans la continuité d’un ensemble de travaux réalisés par l’artiste dès 1991 et connu sous le nom Errata.
By bringing contemporary art into an accessible, everyday format, the project questions what defines an artwork and how it can be collected, displayed and experienced. The box offers a playful yet thoughtful encounter between popular culture and conceptual art, allowing an ordinary object to acquire an entirely new identity.
Presented at Paris Internationale from 19 to 24 October 2026, Jean-Luc Moulène’s edition exemplifies the continuing dialogue between contemporary artistic practice and the visual culture of everyday life.
