Art Basel on Focus
Discovering contemporary artists and designers through material, craftsmanship and sculptural expression.
At THEMA Fair 2026, SM Bureau presents a selection of contemporary artistic practices exploring the boundaries between collectible design, sculpture and functional objects. Bringing together artists and designers working with ceramics, porcelain, glass, stone, wood and metal, the presentation highlights the expressive possibilities of materials and the growing dialogue between contemporary art and design
From Lætitia Jacquetton’s sculptural dialogue between blown glass and natural stone to Siqou Porcelain’s tactile forms inspired by Arctic wildlife, the featured practices reveal a shared fascination with nature, texture and transformation. Ulrike Zerzer explores the movement and geological qualities of ceramic forms, while Polina Torbina of Studio Torbina approaches collectible design through the contrasts between raw materials and refined structures.

The selection also includes Barcelona-based designers Max Enrich and Mike Hausmann, whose work reinterprets furniture through sculptural form and the intrinsic character of natural materials. Other artists, including Johanna Meyer, Natalia Makarova and Gloria Landenberger, investigate the relationships between landscape, memory, craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Through this diverse selection, SM Bureau draws attention to objects that exist beyond their practical function, inviting viewers to consider design as an artistic language in its own right. At THEMA Fair 2026, the presentation offers a perspective on contemporary collectible design in which material, process and individuality become central to the experience of an object.
